Coffs Coastal Headlands Protection and the Solitary Islands Coastal Walk

The Our Living Coast program has joined forces with other groups in an attempt to bring into reality the Solitary Islands Coastal Walk. The walk centres on a 67 kilometre walking route that traverses landscapes within the Coffs Harbour Local Government Area between Sawtell and in the south and Red Rock in the north.

Once completed the Solitary Islands Coastal Walk will then link with the existing 65 km Yurraygir Coastal Walk linking Red Rock and Angourie. Together the two will form one of the most significant coastal walks in Australia.

We aim to offer the walk as a World class experience with sweeping ocean views, headlands and forested areas that provide habitat for a range of threatened species and ecological communities, remote beaches and both indigenous and non-indigenous cultural experiences.

Our Living Coast will be funding headland restoration projects along the walk together with signage, route markers and walk maps and information. Our wonderful coastal headlands are being “ loved to death ” by our community. These headlands have significant natural and cultural values but are in need of better protection from increased visitation and recreational use.

Specifically Our Living Coast will fund works at Bonville Headland, Diggers Head, Woolgoolga Headland and Mullaway Headland. We are aiming for improved access, rationalisation of walking tracks, revegetation works, educational opportunities and better protection of natural and cultural values.

The partners in this exciting project are the Our Living Coast program, Coffs Harbour City Council, NSW National parks and Wildlife Service and the Coffs Coast Regional Park Trust.
