A mashup of dance and downtempo electro beats marinated in the mystical spirit of the Dreamtime.
“Try to imagine Bob Marley meets Stevie Wonder via the chemical brothers, on acid, playing in a steaming rainforest with a didgeridoo and you are getting close”.
After their involvement in the 2000 Sydney Olympics together, the OKA journey began the following year and they continue to bring the joy, fluidity and simplicity of their positive music to a much larger, growing audience on a global stage. At the creative heart of the music is Stu Boga Fergie (aka DidgeriSTU) who connects you to earth with the deep subsonic pulse and resonance of his Yidaki (didgeridoo). He is the big man behind the electronic beats, keys and vocals inspired by his aboriginal heritage.
The OKA Collective includes captivating melody on guitar, sax, flute and woodwinds woven through organic juju beats of deep tribal fire.
A sound and force that touches the heart and connects the soul.
60% Water is a musical collaboration between Hamish Malcolm, Art Schultz and Uncle Mark Flanders, and has its roots in the oral histories of people’s connection to the ocean and coast in the Solitary Islands region.
They saw the potential to interpret stories using music from the many fascinating stories collected, and have crafted a wide range of acoustic blues, roots and folk songs, which evoke strong images of the sea and coastline, and people’s connection to it and its creatures.
60% Water draws on the skills of Hamish on the blues harp and guitar, Art on lead guitar and stompbox, and Uncle Mark on the didge, and presents an interesting blend of coastal connection, environmental awareness, threats to species and their recovery, indigenous culture, and conservation.
Delivered by three individuals who work in environmental research, education and management in the Coffs region, 60% Water has a unique and powerful message of the need for us all to conserve and protect our ocean and coastline.
