Coffs Ambassador for ‘Koalas in our Backyards’
When Ian moved to Boambee East from Sydney in 1993, he was amazed by the amount of bushland rich with wildlife in and around his new home.
He soon discovered the network of walking tracks and footpaths within these bushland remnants and began to explore them each week by foot or bicycle.
Ian was suprised though to learn that few people were aware of these beautiful areas.
He became a Coffs Ambassador in 2009 to help his community discover the local bushland reserves and learn more about the koalas that live in them.
Since then Ian has thrown himself into researching our national icon and has become a real koala enthusiast and advocate.
When he is not taking people on Coffs Ambassadors tours, Ian is an active member of both Dorrigo Urunga Bellingen Bicycle Users Group (DUBBUG) and Coffs BUG. As well organising regular bike rides around the region that are open to all members of the public, Ian and these groups also lobby for more local cycleways.
