It is time for another Marine Discovery Series, this time we have Shane White, PhD candidate at Southern Cross University based at the National Marine Science Centre. His talk entitled “Water Quality and the Coffs Blueberry Revolution” draws attention to the fact that the blueberry industry is the fastest growing horticultural sector in the Coffs Harbour City Council Local Government Area. However, the influence of this intensive industry on water quality remains unknown. Coffs Harbour City Council engaged Southern Cross University to perform water quality investigations in creeks within the Bucca Bucca Creek catchment, a tributary of the Orara River.
Join Shane as he shares his results revealing a clear link between blueberry farming and nitrogen runoff in headwater streams and the assessment of potential impacts of blueberry nitrogen runoff to downstream habitats such as estuaries and the Solitary Islands Marine Park.
When: Thursday, 17th of May at 6:30pm.
Where: National Marine Science Centre, 2 Bay Drive (entry via main foyer, ground floor)
